Support for student volunteers at Pan Am games

The Ontario government is providing OSAP benefits for the approximately 4,500 college and university students who will be volunteers at the Pan Am games this summer. New and returning student volunteers will not be required to put down a pre-study contribution. New graduates who volunteer will be able to defer their OSAP loan payment until one year after completing their studies which would give them six more interest-free months.

Changes to 30% tuition rebate

Students entering their fifth year of study will soon be eligible for the Ontario 30 per cent tuition rebate. This change will be a relief to co-op students whose work terms put them into the fifth year of study and therefore making them ineligible for a year of support. Eligible students must be in undergraduate studies and have a combined, pre-tax parental income of no more than $160,000. The grant currently stands a $1,730 per student.
