As many of you have already noticed this past year, UTSC has undergone several beneficial infrastructural changes. In particular, there have been three major alterations to the campus.

The most prominent addition to our campus is the UTSC Athletic and Recreation Centre which is now being operated from inside the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC). The TPASC officially opened in September 2014 and housed several sporting competitions during this summer for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games including swimming, diving, fencing, speed skating and sitting volleyball.

The facility includes two internationally recognized swimming pools and a diving tank. There is also a large gymnasium with an indoor track for indoor sports such as badminton, basketball, soccer and volleyball. UTSC interhouse leagues will be playing in this gymnasium. The facility also includes an indoor rock climbing wall with the option of having a climbing instructor.  The strength and conditioning studio is another amazing place for working out either alone or with friends.

UTSC now also has eight new tennis courts. The University of Toronto Scarborough Tennis Centre (UTS) was built this past year and has been a venue for the athletes at the Parapan Am Games as they competed in the Wheelchair Tennis Competition. Located in the valley, this facility is also available for use to community members, UTSC students as well as staff and faculty.

The Environmental Science and Chemistry Building (ESCB) is the new addition to the academic buildings on campus. It will be used for the environmental science and chemistry programs and is located to the north of the IC building. Its design targets the LEED Gold Standard which aims to make the building sustainable and environmentally friendly.

UTSC students should make use of all three new facilities during the academic year. Try joining an inter house league, a yoga class or take tennis lessons in the valley. Make sure to check out the ESCB during your break time, even if you are not a physical sciences student. With many more improvements, additions and amendments on the horizon it is sure to be an interesting few years on Military Trail.
